The Mind and The Heart

“The heart has its own reasons that the mind does not know”

The Mind and the Heart

Life is a series of decisions that embody our capability to manage dilemmas. Without decisions, our lives would be dull and monotonous. Our choices can either result positively or negatively but regardless of the outcome, the lesson remains vital to our knowledge. We were taught to believe that our intellectual reasoning is the source of our decisions. Growing up, we were told to prevail our minds’ logical reasons than what we want but have you ever wondered why our hearts’ desires overpower?

The battle between the heart and the mind is inevitable. Our minds are more on a systemized routine of decision-making. While the heart emphasizes our desire sand passion toward a situation, completely dissipating the idea of logical reasoning. These two separate concepts are applicable to almost every situation an individual encounters for it is a life necessity. As an example to this concept, being romantically involved with someone is a constant battle between logic and emotions. It opens people, especially to youths like me, to a realization that during shortcomings in a relationship, our strong emotions overpower our decisions. Following the heart is risky for it often leads us to our wants while our minds are more on what we need. It’s basically a need versus want circumstance.

Both the intellectual and emotional reasonings are contrast to each other. These two separate concepts have such power over our mental capability but once our hearts’ fuel our desires, its power is irresistible. Our brains are trained to be process facts and information while our heart is made to know our true colors and desires in life. It might just be a hollow muscle organ but the way it controls our thinking and our actions makes us realize that the heart is in charge of us.

Once you learn how to consider factious reasons and finally decide to listen to the beat of your heart, you will know where life will lead you. As long as you know what you want in life, hesitations are not an option.

Our heart indeed has a mind of its own; we should listen to it, as it often expresses our profound attitudes, but we should not always follow it without regard for rational considerations, because the intellectual mind is equally important. If we can learn to integrate the two systems, we will have the best of both worlds.
